From March 11th to 19th, Aracataca and Cartagena will host the second edition of Gabriel García Márquez fellowship cultural journalism, a project of the FNPI and the Ministry of Culture of Colombia with the support of The Cartago Foundation, the International Film Festival of Cartagena, Red Assist, the Chamber of Commerce of Cartagena and the Ardila Lülle Organization. This time, 337 applications from 48 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Central America, North America, Asia, Africa and Europe were received. After the selection process, 15 journalists from 10 countries were chosen to participate in the activities of the fellowship with all expenses paid. During the nine days of the fellowship, participants will take themes as film, popular culture and the visual arts as subjects to dig into woodworking of the genders with wich the cultural journalism is build, such as the interview, reportage and opinion columns. It will also be an opportunity to reflect about the role of cultural journalism in an era in which artists and audiences have an increasingly direct communication, facilitated by digital tools. The main laboratory training of the fellows in 2014 will be the International Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias -FICCI- and Aracataca, Magdalena, two key pieces to understand the universe created by García Márquez. Equally the felows will participate for the Fellowship activities The I International Biennial of Contemporary Art -BIACI-. All rounds of the grant will be guided by the FNPI teachers: Jonathan Levi and Héctor Feliciano. In addition, the learning journeys will count with the participation of Fernanda Solórzano, film critic for the magazine Letras Libres; AO Scott, film critic for The New York Times; Alberto Salcedo Ramos, FNPI writer and teacher; and Jean-François Fogel, FNPI master and expert in digital media. We will be posting daily notes on fnpi.org and redcultural.fnpi.org about the development and of the grant, as well as interviews with teachers and experts invited to the activity.
